Water damage is one of the biggest problems RV owners are confronted with, and the RV roof is where most of the water damage happens. Lots of RV owners never go on the roof of their RV, and that’s okay, as long as you have someone periodically clean the roof and inspect all the seams and sealants. In this RV video hosts Mark & Dawn Polk with RV Education 101 demonstrate how to clean, inspect and maintain the roof of your RV. Happy Camping, Mark […]

My wife wants a trip to the beach in our Cherokee trailer. Indiana Dunes in about 8 hours from where we live, which is about 4 hours closer than any salt water beach. Am I crazy to think Lake Michigan is a good alternative to the busy gulf or east coast beaches? We would probably he going the first part of June, but our schedules are open. Thanks for any info or advice!

A couple of weeks ago, I posted on here about me pulling a 7600lb (dry) trailer with our Ford Expedition. Since then, I’ve seriously been researching trucks to upgrade to, and I’m very torn. I’ve decided diesel is the route I’m going because we’re planning on taking trips and not staying local all the time. Coming from Indiana, majority of those trips will require mountain hauling. I’m stuck between the Dodge 2500 Mega Cab and a Ford F-250. Does it really come down to whether […]

Screenshot: Army of the Dead/Netflix After a rather limp April slate , Netflix is springing into summer blockbuster season in May, packing its release schedule full of original films, high-profile pandemic acquisitions, and long-awaited new seasons of a few of its most popular series (or at least a few with vocal online fanbases—we see you, Castlevania stans). Will it be enough to help the streamer recover some of its eroding market share ? Only time will tell. (But probably not.) Most of the attention—at least […]

Language experts generally agree that the first six years of a child’s life are the most formative for learning language. We speak and little ears listen, acquiring meaning, coming to comprehend syntax, sensing nuance. Teaching your child a new language early on is a life-long gift that may take them to unexpected and wonderful places. For instance, thanks to her parents’ diligent efforts, Geneva Long has always been fluent in Citroën 2CV. And not just 2CV, but all dialects of the Citroën family of romance […]

Sizing a weight distribution hitch: rounding up or down?

By |2021-04-16T16:55:22-05:00April 16th, 2021|Boating Activities|

I’m rethinking the weight-distributing hitch for my travel trailer. Trailer’s dry weight is 3600#, loaded it’s probably around 4000-4200#. (Gross weight rating is 4500#). When I got it originally I set it up with a 6000# Equal-i-zer WD hitch but now I’m wondering if I should go down to the 4000# model. I do a lot of boondocking / dirt road travel and I feel that the hitch is unnecessarily stiff. I’m willing to give up some sway control on the freeway to get a better ride off-road. Obviously I […]

I’m driving myself crazy shopping around for trailer insurance. I live and work full time from my trailer, and the three places I’ve called all have a clause that says something along the lines of, “I certify the RV is not used for any commercial, business activity, or commuting to a work site.” I’m concerned that if I ever had a loss, they’d find a way to exclude me since I work from my computer which happens to be located in my trailer. Does anyone […]

safety chains chopper view By Russ and Tiña De Maris We’ve repeatedly harped on the importance of having, inspecting, and safely using trailer safety chains. If something were to uncouple your tow vehicle from your trailer, safety chains can prevent the trailer from going its own way with disastrous results. But a couple in Idaho inadvertently learned that safety chains can act in reverse. For them, safety chains saved the day, keeping them from almost certain death. Anything but an ordinary trip Last Monday, Nicki […]
