Remove the floor mats of your vehicle and shake or beat them to get rid of larger pieces of debris. After that, go over them with a handheld vacuum to lift any remaining debris. (BestReviews) Cleaning your car or truck can be a drag when you don’t have the right tools. A handheld vacuum makes the task much easier. Handheld vacuums for cars make quick work of lifting debris from nooks and crannies around seats, trunks and everywhere in between. These devices often come with […]

I wonder if anyone has ever seen an RV with an entry door on the back – not a flip down ramp style door, but a regular entry door. A while back I was sitting at an intersection and saw one drive by. At the time I tried looking it up but was unable to find the floor plan online. I don’t remember who made it and I’ve also forgot whether it was a bumper pull or a 5th-wheel, but it had both a regular […]

I have a 2017 F250. Ford advertises big towing capability, but I don’t see how it’s possible to accomplish the big numbers with the payload and GVWRs.. their towing chart says my truck with a 3.55 axle should have a 15,100lb gooseneck capacity towing. GVWR of 10,000lbs Sticker says 2,146lbs max payload of occupants and cargo. Cat scales got me in at 8,400lbs…. So I can only have a payload of 1,600lbs?? My rear gross axel rating is 6,340lbs. Tire index on each is about […]

Interstate 24 was backed up for several miles Sunday afternoon near Oak Grove following an accident that injured three people. Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy Andy Spann says a dump truck towing a motor vehicle was heading east near the 90 mile marker when the driver lost control and broke through the cable barriers in the median. The towed vehicle came loose, scattering debris and the load in the median and the rear axle came off. The axle struck a westbound RV and another passenger vehicle […]

Curious, has anybody had any experience with a window mounted or side mounted AC unit in a travel trailer during the summer months? I am looking at a travel trailer and always wondered how efficient side mounted ac units were in the summer.

I installed a window unit in the rear of my 35′ bunkhouse. We were full timing in a single location. Moving with it installed was not an option. Fitting the unit in the window with the insulation in the gaps is critical to keeping it efficient enough to make sense. I had created some extra space between the bottom of the window and the a/c unit by tucking the power cord under and out the window. I used the 15 amp outlet on my shore […]

These Nova Scotians moved into old school buses to deal with rising house prices

By |2021-05-23T19:52:00-05:00May 23rd, 2021|Spring RV Escapes|

Hannah Verra, who lives in West Dublin, N.S., bought this 25-year-old school bus for $2,500 earlier this year. After months of work, she’s getting ready to move in at the end of the month. (Hannah Verra) Faced with rising rental prices in rural Nova Scotia, a 12-metre school bus seemed like the logical choice for Hannah Verra. She admits the 25-year-old bus she bought for $2,500 earlier this year is a bit rough on the outside, with cracks of yellow still visible in the peeling red paint — a reminder […]

Former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort has charged the secret service $40,000 during the spring as they protected him after he left office . The resort made $16,000 by renting rooms to the secret service during Trump’s Christmas stay . The rooms cost nearly twice the limit for federal government hotel spending, but the White House can overrule that limit. The Trump campaign allegedly duped donors into weekly donations, leading them to unwittingly donate many times more than what they had originally intended . While President, […]

The COVID pandemic split the King County homeless system in two. A year later, the differences remain stark

There’s little to suggest that homelessness in the Seattle area has shrunk after a year of pandemic. Which is why, at first glance, the numbers from King County’s homelessness system during COVID-19 may seem baffling. Nearly 23% fewer households accessed services like overnight shelter and drop-in day centers in 2020 than the year before, according to King County data. The county hypothesizes that some people just aren’t asking for those services. Stimulus checks, increased rental assistance and an eviction moratorium have propped up those on […]

Whether you’re roughing it in the woods or relaxing on the patio, the best solar lanterns will meet your needs when it comes to battery, brightness, and portability. Charging time can vary, but solar lights typically take four to 12 hours in direct sunlight to reach a full charge, and most popular solar lanterns seem to take at least six. If you might sometimes need quicker charging or are in a shady spot, opt for a lantern that offers a speedier alternate charging method. Once […]

Photo: Labylullaby (Shutterstock) Whether you’re addressing a group of people at work, or having a one-on-one conversation with a friend, you have the challenge of competing for their attention with their phone (and everything on it). And beyond that, there’s the question of whether they’ll actually retain anything you’ve told them. So how can you communicate in a way that makes people want to pay attention? According to Dr. Eva Krockow, a psychologist specializing in decision-making at the University of Leicester, using metaphors can help. […]

Photo: debasige (Shutterstock) Look: we know that we’ve heard a lot from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) over the past year. What were they supposed to do? We’ve been living during a global pandemic caused by a virus never-before-seen in humans, and we all had/have a lot to learn. But this week, the CDC addressed a different type of social distancing , which, apparently, is enough of a problem that the agency decided that it warranted its own investigation. We’re talking, of […]
